He is desperate to free himself from the cosy domesticity of his marriage to wife Beth (Tamsin Greig). Rock star Ben struggles to adjust to rural life while trying keeping his romance with Tamara on the boil.Īt the same time writer, jaded Nicholas, sees this gorgeous young woman as a means to reinvigorating both his life and craft. His arrival creates yet more ripples of latent passion in the rural community, particularly among two smitten schoolgirls named Jody and Casey (Jessica Barden and Charlotte Christie, respectively).Īs autumn turns to winter and spring, odd-job man Andy sets about renovating Tamara's family home.Īll the while he hopes of reviving his former trysts with her in the garden shed, as Tamara herself starts on her first autobiographical novel. He is so taken with Tamara when she interviews him at a local music festival that he moves into the village to pursue her. Meanwhile, there is Ben Sergeant (an in form Dominic Cooper) who is a pop idol in a rock band called Swipe. This includes successful 50-something thriller writer Nicholas Hardiment (played by Roger Allam) and handyman Andy Cobb (Luke Evans), who used to be Tamara's boyfriend in his youth.
And, most importantly, she has had a nose job.Īnd so Tamara's arrival sends shock waves through this quiet community, particularly among its male contingent.
Now she has to return to her roots after her mother dies, to renovate and sell the family home.īut the former ugly duckling with an enormous nose has by this time grown into a smouldering femme fatale, media scribe and aspiring novelist. Tamara was a gawky teenager growing up in a sleepy Dorset village before leaving to seek her fame and fortune in London.
The former James Bond eye-candy really does hit the big time with this one. It also features a genuine coming-of-age performance by its leading lady Gemma Arterton. Tamara Drewe is a real treat a delicious, daring and fantastically funny comedy.
